About Kiltullagh Pioneers AFC
Building community, developing players, and growing the game since 1979.
Our Story
Kiltullagh Pioneers AFC was founded in August 1979, born from the ambition of local people who wanted to compete in the Galway Football Association leagues and expand sporting opportunities in the community.
At the time, Kiltullagh was home to a forward‑thinking community organisation — Kiltullagh Sports Centre — which ran a wide range of activities for young people, including the local tennis court and various youth programmes. As interest in sport continued to grow, a group came together in August 1979 to explore establishing a soccer club for the area.
A well‑attended public meeting followed, and from that gathering Kiltullagh Pioneers AFC was officially formed. The club’s first officers were elected on the night:
- Chairman: Michael McGloin
- Secretary: Patrick McGloin
- Treasurer: Nora Gibbons
- Committee: Christy Corcoran, Seamus Cannon, Stan Lawless
One of the club’s greatest assets from this era is the survival of the original handwritten minute book, which documents the formation of the club and provides a unique, authentic record of its earliest decisions, volunteers and ambitions.
From these beginnings, the Pioneers have grown into a proud, community‑driven club serving Kiltullagh, Athenry and the wider East Galway area.
Our Mission
Kiltullagh Pioneers AFC is dedicated to developing young players in a safe, inclusive and supportive environment. We provide equal opportunities for all, promote respect and positive behaviour, and use football to build character, confidence and community spirit. As ambassadors for our parish and surrounding areas, we uphold the highest standards of professionalism, safeguarding and sportsmanship. We are a non‑political, welcoming club committed to continuous learning, strong values and representing our community with pride.
Our Values
Respect. Inclusion. Integrity. Community. Player Welfare. Development. Safeguarding. Collaboration. Continuous Improvement. These are the values that guide every decision we make and every team we field.
Our Home
Castle Park is the heart of Kiltullagh Pioneers AFC — the place where generations of players, families and volunteers have come together since 1979. More than just pitches, it is a community space built through local effort, pride and a shared belief in what football can do for young people.
From our earliest days, Castle Park has been shaped by volunteers who gave their time, skills and commitment to create a safe, welcoming environment for every child in the parish and surrounding areas. Today, it remains the centre of our club’s identity: a home for training, matches, development, and community connection.
At Castle Park, our values come to life. Respect, inclusion, player welfare and community spirit guide everything we do — from our youngest academy players to our most experienced coaches. It is a place where friendships are made, confidence grows, and players learn the game in a positive, supportive environment.
Castle Park is more than where we play.
